The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority’s Gaming Integrity and Licensing Branch is seeking an experienced and self-motivated individual to join its team as a permanent full-time Technical Investigator. Reporting to the Manager, Gaming Integrity Investigations, the Technical Investigator is responsible for conducting inspections of and investigations into casino gaming and licensed charitable gaming functions, gaming and non-gaming employees’ backgrounds, gaming and non-gaming suppliers and horse racing activities to ensure compliance with The Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act, 1997 , casino-related legislation and directives, Rules and Regulations for Saskatchewan Horse Racing, various terms and conditions for charitable gaming and the Criminal Code . Occasionally, they will conduct investigations into good character issues around other permits and licenses. Core Competencies (Job Family – Technical) Accountability (Level A) – Takes responsibility for one’s own actions, behaviours and commitments Communication (Level B) – Adapts communication Customer Service Excellence (Level C) – Builds customer relationships and identifies required improvements to service delivery Adaptability (Level B) – Adapts behaviours and approaches to address specific situations Teamwork (Level A) – Participates in team or group activities Job Duties Investigates violations of The Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act, 1997 ; casino and charitable gaming legislation, directives, and Terms and Conditions; Rules and Regulations for Saskatchewan Horse Racing; and the Criminal Code Performs due diligence investigations of gaming suppliers and gaming employees including criminal record and reference checks and conducts interviews and prepares written reports as required. Conducts operational reviews of casinos, charities, bingos, break opens, raffles, for compliance with The Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act 1997 , gaming-related legislation and directives, and Terms and Conditions Interprets and advises current and potential licensees, registrants, casinos, bingos, and charities, on applicable rules and regulations Conducts investigations of local, national, and international gaming suppliers to ensure legislated good character requirements are met. Performs investigations around any gaming-related complaints. In order to be screened into the competition and considered for the next step of the application process, your cover letter and resume must clearly illustrate that you meet the following qualifications: Minimum of five years’ experience in law enforcement. This experience includes performing police criminal and investigative functions, and investigative report-writing. Experience working with legal, regulatory, enforcement, investigative, inspection and court principles. Experience working with information technology and knowledge of hardware and software products, along with a basic understanding of integrating those products with organizational needs and infrastructure. Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups. Knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and municipal acts, regulations, legislation, statutes, and bylaws. Previous experience with gaming investigative activities is an asset. Candidates, who have been screened into the competition, will be required to participate in a test and interview, which will be used to further assess the screening qualifications above, as well as the following required technical skills: Ability to encourage, co-operate with and advise others to promote and maintain positive working relationships and achieve client, branch and organizational goals Knowledge of conflict resolution techniques and approaches. Knowledge of forensic accounting or auditing principles and practices, typically gained from fraud investigations. Ability to prepare reports with attention to detail and accuracy. Working Conditions The work period for an Investigator is unregulated within any working day or series of working days, consisting of 224 hours and 2 earned days off (EDO) in a 6-week period and no more than 12 hours in a day or more than 6 days in a calendar week. Investigators are required to work hours that correspond with peak times for casino gaming and licensed charitable gaming functions. As such, regular evening and weekend work is the norm. Investigators are required to travel, sometimes during inclement weather and/or poor travel conditions. Overnight stays are also required. In the course of their duties, Investigators may need to interact with customers who are irate and as such, they must demonstrate an attitude of safety by always ensuring the safety of themselves and others within the workplace. This position will be required to obtain and maintain an SLGA Gaming Regulator Certificate of Registration and will be subject to SLGA’s Gaming Regulations and Code of Conduct Policies.
