The Opportunity Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Plant Maintenance and Operations and Chief Engineer, the Stationary Engineer operates, maintains, monitors, records and repairs all building heating, ventilation, air conditioning and service equipment and ancillary equipment necessary to provide uninterrupted heat, air conditioning, hot/cold ware, compressed air, clinical air, steam, electricity and emergency power. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to conducting preventative maintenance repairs and procedures on all aforementioned equipment; conducting periodic walking rounds throughout mechanical, electrical and equipment areas and recording pressures, temperatures, monitoring building temperatures, etc; during all hours outside 8-4 pm Monday - Friday, on holidays or as otherwise directed, providing the initial response to emergency maintenance calls for service such as clearing a plugged toilet, replacing a burnt out light in critical care areas, initial resetting of a circuit breaker, etc., and other related duties as assigned. Hours of Work Monday - Friday and Weekends, 7.5 hour shifts or 11.25 hour shifts (7:00 am-7:00pm/7:00 pm to 7:00 am) Your Qualifications Minimum grade 12 or equivalent preparation to secondary school graduation (GED) required. Successful completion of Education/Training as a Stationary Engineer Refrigeration in Plant Certificate, second class required. Fourth class Power Engineering ticket required. Building Systems Course considered an asset. Three (3) years’ experience in a similar position an asset. Ability to work both in a team and independently. Ability to react effectively to emergencies or other changes in work environment that require immediate re-prioritizing of tasks. Ability to reads and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams, electrical code specifications, blueprints, and technical manuals. Ability to distinguish full colour spectrum. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety procedures. Ability to recognize appropriately react to potential dangers. Ability to follow instructions and work processes. Knowledge of building operation systems (Metasys and Apogee). Knowledge of hydronics and ability to complete water tests with general understanding towards treatment and safety guidelines. Ability to diligently attend to details and pursue quality in accomplishing tasks. Ability to identify opportunities or issues and take action to enhance organization results without being prompted by others. Competencies in other languages an asset.
