The Opportunity The Social Worker (Masters) is an integral member of the interprofessional health care team providing collaborative, holistic care with individuals, families, and/or communities. Social Workers are primarily concerned with the relationships between people and their environments which are essential to psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The social and structural determinants of health are embedded in social work theory and practice and are the focus for the dynamic and interactive process of engagement and care planning. Social work practice is grounded in the belief that all people have strengths and potential in areas of social emotional literacy, autonomy, and sense of purpose. Human Rights and social justice are the philosophical underpinnings of social work practice. The Social Worker (Masters) practices at an advanced level and draws on a Biopsychosocial Social Justice approach to constructive solutions, effective support, and informed advocacy. Healthcare social workers practice according to the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics and the policies and procedures of IWK Health. In this role you will provide evening and weekend coverage to care areas within the Women’s Newborn Health Program and Children’s Health Program, including pediatric emergency department. About You We would love to hear from you if you are registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers Have a Master’s degree in social work from an accredited university with two (2) years related post master’s clinical experience. Please ensure your resume includes all relevant education, experience, training, and certifications in relevant therapeutic modalities. Hours of Work Hours will include afterhours 1600-2400 seven days a week, with 0800-1600 on Saturday and Sunday to provide urgent and emergent social work service in various service areas throughout IWK Health. Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. You will be asked to specify your preferences on how many shifts a week in a full time equivalent from .04 FTE to 0.6 FTE in the screening questions that follow once you click 'Apply'.
