This course will explore the ways in which different religious movements have prepared for and expected an end time, from fears, symbols, and rituals to failed propheices and social violence. By examining traditions such as Jewish and Christian apocalyptic texts through to fears of nuclear apocalypse and zombies, the course seeks to understand the ways in which ancient and modern claims of "the end" reflect the aspirations, anxieties, and religious concerns of communities. Estimated TA Support: 360 hours (dependent on enrollment) Estimated Enrolment: 150 Class Schedule: Fridays 13:00-15:00 (In-Person) Sessional Dates of Appointment: January 1, 2025 - May 9, 2025 Salary: Sessional Lecturer I - $9,457.90 Sessional Lecturer I Long-Term - $9,930.79 Sessional Lecturer II - $10,121.77 Sessional Lecturer II Long-Term - $10,326.62 Sessional Lecturer III - $10,362,76 Sessional Lecturer III Long-Term - $10,570.02 Please note that should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail. Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Religion or a related field Ability to address the themes of the course to which the application is being made Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated teaching experience as a teaching assistant or course instructor Extensive knowledge of the subject area is highly desirable Description of Duties: Develop a detailed syllabus for the course Presenting weekly lectures and classes as appropriate Grading papers and exams Meeting with students individually as they request Handling other pedagogical and administrative tasks ordinarily associated with an undergraduate course Application Instructions: Applicants must submit an updated curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching in the relevant area (including student evaluations, if available), and the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 application form: https://uoft.me/CUPE-3902-Unit-3-Application-Form to XXXX@utoronto.ca .
