Such an interface could fuse data with other devices that we use periodically and data with other IoTs in the environment. People could then leverage their physical presence over their digital presence to communicate and share personal wellbeing. This could unlock healthcare that is proactive and preventative, social connectedness that is more profound, enable care distribution models to be seamless and on demand, better fitness insights, safer working environments and more. The vision for SKIIN -our first consumer-facing brand- is to enhance human ability through connected clothing and textiles. Skiin is in beta-phase market launch and has been recently granted Health Canada medical device license and submitted to FDA for regulatory approval in the US market. The Role: As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you are critical to the fast-paced integration and product development execution team. You will have the opportunity to manage key engineering aspects of the projects and execute outsourcing plans to schedule. You will be responsible for ensuring new mechanical design products are developed in partnership with the supply chain, from ideation through to completion. Collaborating cross-functionally with our design engineers, scientists, and executives, your role in the company’s evolution will be highly visible and impactful. Responsibilities: Lead Mechanical Engineering efforts: Lead mechanical engineering efforts to serve all project needs and engineers' mentorship. Support engineering in defining standards and documentation required for outsourcing mechanical assemblies. Create and manage supplier relationships, defining technical statements of work. Support the transition from prototyping to mass production. Identify, evaluate, and select potential suppliers and manufacturers, assessing their capabilities. Design Management: Accountable for designing and developing new technologies focusing on smart wearables. Conduct design reviews aligning all the teams and stakeholders of design modifications. Collaborate with partners and suppliers, ensuring effective technical communication. Work closely with teams of different disciplines (mechanical, firmware, data science, software, industrial design, textile) for system integration. Aid in assembling and integrating prototypes and debugging issues on the fly. Outsourcing Execution: Collaborate with supplier teams to ensure manufacturing standards are met, emphasizing process development, DFx, testing, and quality improvements. Support engineering in defining standards and documentation required for outsourcing mechanical assemblies. Create and manage supplier relationships, defining technical statements of work. Identify, evaluate, and select potential suppliers, assessing their capabilities. Process Purchase Requisitions (PRQ) in coordination with other departments. Prepare and issue procurement documents, including RFPs, RFIs, RFQs, etc. Negotiate with suppliers on lead time, cost, and quality for critical components. Quality Assurance: Ensure manufacturing standards are met, emphasizing process development, DFx, testing, and quality improvements. Perform performance reviews of suppliers against procurement requirements. Ensure compliance with commercial, legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations in all procurement transactions. Develop processes for stress testing, durability, waterproofing, and all necessary tests against desirable ISO standards. Qualifications: Education and Experience: Background in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering; a minimum of a Master's degree is required. 9+ years of experience in mechanical engineering designing consumer products. Experience in creating prototypes and iterating quickly. Experience in advanced manufacturing and Technical Skills: Hands-on practical design and prototyping experience using 3D CAD software (On Shape and SolidWorks). Experience with rapid prototyping, 3D printing, and machining parts. Experience applying DFM and DFA best practices to injection-molded elements and plastics. Experience with material selection and RFQ packages and processes. Experience with mass manufacturing with CMs (tooling, assembly lines, etc.). Strong experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD modelling packages. Understanding of technical drawings and geometric tolerances. Experience creating and executing test plans to validate the design. Communication and Leadership: Able to make decisions and give recommendations independently. Demonstrated initiative in developing new ideas and problem-solving. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong leadership and teamwork skills. Problem-Solving and Innovation: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities. Adaptability: Ability to contribute and work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. Willingness to adapt to evolving priorities and challenges. Bonus: Designing parts for smart clothing or other wearables. Experience with electrical, mechanical, and optical sensing systems. Experience with injection moulding for consumer electronics.
