PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT A CIVIL SERVICE OPPORTUNITY About Us The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board (NSUARB) is an independent quasi-judicial tribunal with broad regulatory and adjudicative jurisdiction over a wide scope of subject areas. More information on the Board can be found here . We are looking for a Senior Advisor, Finance who will report to the Managing Director, Advisory Services. While collaborating cooperatively with the advisory team this position provides a broad scope of advisory, compliance and related services. This may be the right opportunity for you if you have the following skills and experience. You Have: Excellent verbal and written communication skills that cater to all levels. A proven history to meet tight deadlines, work under pressure and juggle multiple priorities. Previous experience in a regulated industry and/or public utility is a definite asset. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Strategic oversight and coordination of utility submissions to the UARB including liaison with Board Counsel and board consultants/expert witnesses. Conducting financial analysis and assessment of financial statements and accounting policies. Providing financial and technical analyses and evaluations of utility capital expenditure requests Assisting with hearings and decision writing Engagement of appropriate consultants Complaint handling Conducting the research and studies Participating on Steering Committees and stakeholder meetings involving NSPI, Department of Energy, or other government agencies and interest groups Performs other related duties and responsibilities consistent with the classification of the position. Duties will include involvement in several mandates including electricity, water, and natural gas. Advisors may also be tasked to provide general information within their area of expertise to parties at proceedings, the public, or to act as a liaison with industry, government, or others. Qualifications Required Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent. Academic and Technical 10 years of post-designation experience providing accounting, financial, and management services. Ability to interpret or apply International Financial Reporting Standards and other Generally Accepted Accounting Principles Highly developed analytical and problem resolution skills with the ability to clearly and simply convey complex concepts. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a committed approach that shows initiative and adaptability. Ability to understand and interpret relevant statutes and regulations. Audit, consulting, or similar advisory services in a utility or regulatory context is an asset. Working knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel; and Working knowledge of ratemaking, regulatory accounting, public utilities regulation and operations is an asset. Personal Ability to meet strict deadlines, have superior attention to detail, and work well both independently and in a team environment. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise tact, discretion, and diplomacy. An acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered. Additional Information Salary Range: $4055.86 - $5069.81 bi-weekly (depending on qualifications and experience). In addition, the NSUARB offers a comprehensive benefits package.
