Description:

Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital is actively seeking applicants for a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) position. The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides therapeutic, diagnostic and respiratory services including pulmonary function testing. The RRT ensures the efficient delivery of respiratory and cardiac services and demonstrates efficiency in ventilator management, airway management and bedside spirometry. The RRT is knowledgeable and experienced with ECG's, arterial blood gases, arterial line insertion, endotracheal intubation as well as home oxygen assessments. Key Responsibilities: Respond to, and attend all resuscitations (code blue, code pink, rapid response) and provide airway management (basic and advanced) for patients throughout the facility when needed. Responsible for the initiation, maintenance and weaning of patients requiring invasive or non-invasive ventilation in coordination with the Most Responsible Physician (MRP). Perform routine pulmonary function testing, including, but not limited to: Full Screen, Pre and Post Assessment, Spirometry, and Provocation Testing. Perform arterial punctures and arterial line insertions. Monitor and respond to all applicable needs populated to Respiratory Therapy Referral Page within Cerner. Monitor and respond to all applicable needs populated to the online work list within Cerner. Provide teaching and mentoring for all new respiratory therapy staff as assigned on shift. Assess stock levels for respiratory therapy departmental needs and communicate outstanding needs to charge respiratory therapist. Assess stock levels for pulmonary function lab needs and communicate outstanding needs to charge respiratory therapist. Assess for and communicate any technical issues/broken equipment/expired equipment in respiratory therapy department or pulmonary function lab to appropriate area (i.e. Bio-Engineering, maintenance, etc.) and communicate any outstanding needs to charge respiratory therapist. Clean any reusable respiratory equipment that has been soiled or in a patient environment as per guidelines (i.e. Ventilator, NIV, cuff inflator, etc.). Assemble equipment: Recircuit ventilators and non-invasive ventilators; restock, sign and seal airway boxes; inspect, reassemble, check for function and properly store equipment returned from central supply. Perform daily duties as required in ICU. Perform daily duties as required in ED. Perform daily duties as required on medical units. Commitment to privacy and confidentiality. Comply with all legislation, policies procedures, protocols and guidelines defined by government agencies, hospital and laboratory department. Proficient in the use of departmental electronic information systems. Qualifications: Post graduate diploma in Respiratory Therapy. Current registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO). Minimum of 1 year experience. Current ACLS certification is required. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively in an inter-professional environment. Self-directed, self-motivated, work independently and prioritize work situations. Proven advanced decision making and problem solving abilities. Attention to detail with high level of accuracy. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of patients and stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to work at a fast pace under pressure. Demonstrated ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis. Other pertinent conditions: Must be available to work all shifts as required which may include weekends, statutory holidays, days, evenings, and night shifts. Hours are subject to change .
