Reporting to the Public Health Early Years Manager, the Public Health Nurse (PHN) is an essential member of an inter-disciplinary, collaborative Public Health team responsible for the delivery of programs and services according to NS Public Health Standards and Protocols. The PHN demonstrates a holistic understanding of individuals and communities that enables them to inform content, development, implementation, and assessment of the impacts of policies and/or programs. The PHN works in collaboration with the Early Years Consultant and others as appropriate to address local population health needs by planning, implementing and evaluating public health policies, programs and services through actions based on the principles of population health, health promotion and disease prevention. The PHN within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse works with the Public Health Early Years team in implementing the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Program and the Healthy Beginnings Home Visiting Program including screening, assessing, and supporting families in the prenatal, post-partum, and early years period. The PHN facilitates a collaborative multidisciplinary approach and works with the Early Years team to ensure quality case management. The PHN works with community partners and stakeholders to address health inequities with the broader intent of improving the population’s health. The PHN provides immunization program support to the Health Protection Team. About You We would love to hear from you if you have the following: Bachelor in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing Licensed or eligible for licensure with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses (NSCN) Certificate in Public Health Nursing an asset Minimum one (1) year nursing experience in Public Health or Community Health required Two (2) years’ experience preferred Demonstrated knowledge of: the health status of populations; inequities in health; the social and ecological determinants of health and illness; social justice; and health emergency preparedness and disaster response Nova Scotia Public Health Immunization Certification or willingness to complete Understanding and knowledge of the Health Protection Act and other relevant Regulations, Legislation and Acts Demonstrated knowledge of applicable Public Health Standards and Protocols , including the Communicable Disease Prevention and Control, Management and Response Protocol Critical thinking skills, including clinical judgment, problem solving skills and strong decision making abilities Ability to life program equipment e.g. large vaccine coolers (Approx. 18 kgs/40lbs) Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred **A skills test will be included as part of the selection process** Please ensure your resume is up to date and includes all relevant education, experience, training, and certifications. Hours Permanent Full Time/ 100% FTE/ 75 Hours Bi-Weekly Starting as soon as possible Compensation and Incentives $43.57 - $54.12 Hourly $56.01 Hourly with 25 years Nursing experience Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
