Requisition ID: 169873 Opportunity Type: Permanent Estimated Annual Salary: 300,000 - 350,000 Type of Remuneration: FFS - Fee For Service Site Visit & Reallocation Allowance Programs: For information and to determine eligibility for Department of Health and Wellness Incentives, please contact XXXX@novascotia.ca About the Opportunity Cape Breton Regional Hospital (CBRH), Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, is seeking a full-time pathologist to join the established medical/scientific department team of five. Annually, the department handles over 15,000 surgical pathology specimens, 35-40 autopsies, and 16,000 cytopathology specimens. The successful candidate will undertake clinical responsibilities in these services and will have the opportunity to oversee the clinical laboratories at CBRH and in surrounding communities opened its door to patients in 1995. The successful applicant could have potential to be the department head or associate/deputy head depending on experience and qualifications. Now, it is the second largest acute care facility in Nova Scotia that serves more than 200,000 patients a year. It is part of a four-hospital complex that also includes Glace Bay, New Waterford Consolidated, and Northside General Hospitals. Located in the historic town of Sydney, CBRH has 162 acute care beds, 36 emergency beds, 23 intermediate and critical care beds, 40 maternal child beds, 52 mental health and addiction beds, and nine palliative care beds. The hospital provides a range of primary and secondary services through in-patient, outpatient, and community-based programs. Services: anesthesiology cancer and supportive care cardiac respiratory dermatology diabetes education services diagnostic imaging dialysis emergency medicine general surgery geriatric assessment and rehabilitation intensive care unit internal medicine laboratory services maternal/child support services mental health and addiction services neonatal care nutrition and diabetic counseling obstetrics and gynecology occupational therapy ophthalmology otolaryngology palliative care physiotherapy plastic surgery social work spiritual and religious care volunteer services Responsibilities work a full scope of practice as a pathologist. perform autopsies and biopsies. assess pathology specimens and cytopathology specimens Expected Hours Full-time Qualifications all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS) all specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) Canadian certification in either anatomical or general pathology is considered an asset Community Details Sydney is a vibrant port city on the edge of the beautiful Cape Breton Highlands National Park .
