In addition to developing new technologies and selecting and installing equipment in greenfield projects, we help our clients to get the most from their existing assets by providing field support, rebuild repairs, and retrofits. Hatch is currently seeking a Mechanical Co-op Student for our Technologies Group, located in our Mississauga head office, starting May 2024 for a 4 month co-op. Responsibilities: Directly apply and develop knowledge in mechanical design Perform finite element analysis on various furnace components and systems, including thermal analysis of cooling system elements; Co-ordinate designs with a multi-disciplinary team including structural, mechanical, electrical, process, and instrumentation and controls. Contribute to the design and improvement of various types of mechanical equipment and technologies, including copper coolers, electrode columns and furnace sealing equipment; Perform calculations for a variety of mechanical systems including machinery components, hydraulic systems, and cooling water systems; Become familiar in reviewing fabrication and construction drawings; and Improve technical communication and report writing skills Education and Experience: Must be in third or fourth year of a Mechanical Engineering program at an accredited university Demonstrate strong academic performance; Possess good communication and interpersonal skills; Have an aptitude for working on multi-disciplinary teams; and Enjoy taking on new challenges with a commitment to achieving engineering excellence. Excel academically while being actively involved in extra-curricular and/or volunteer activities at school or in the community Competencies (knowledge, skill, attributes): Good understanding of engineering and business fundamentals as they apply to engineering problems and projects Ability to learn quickly and to take on new challenges Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Strong written and verbal communication skills Shows critical and creative thinking and problem solving, and brings forward solutions for our clients' toughest challenges Adapts and embraces change For more information on our graduate recruiting process visit hatch.com/students.
