We are currently seeking a qualified and enthusiastic individual to assume the position of Heavy Duty Mechanic with the Public Works Department. Under the supervision of the Fleet Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the preventive maintenance and repairs for the City's heavy truck, stationary engine, and equipment fleet. In addition, the Heavy Duty Mechanic may be required to service and repair small gasoline and diesel equipment. The incumbent will perform preventive maintenance and repairs for the City's heavy truck, stationary engine, and equipment fleet to maintain it to City standards and safe operating conditions. The work requires measuring clearances, interpreting readings of electrical test equipment and following detailed trade manuals, and operating electronic diagnostic tools including but not limited to scanners or vehicle processor interface tools. The incumbent requires Red Seal Certification in Heavy Duty Mechanics, a minimum of five (5) years' experience in the trade and a valid NWT Class 1 driver's license, with air brake endorsement. The training and ability to use oxy-acetylene and arc welding equipment is also required. There will also be the requirement of being on an on-call rotation. The City of Yellowknife offers a salary range of $85,295 - $101,927 as well as a comprehensive benefits package including monthly housing and vacation travel allowances totaling $450 per month and a defined benefit pension plan.
