About This Opportunity Opportunity Type: Half-time to Full-time Family Physician Estimated Annual Salary – $140 000 (half-time) to $280 000 (full-time) [$160/hour + annual incentives] Type of Remuneration – Sessional funding The Newcomer Health Clinic is seeking a Family Physician to join this collaborative team consisting of Family Physicians, Registered Nurses, Dietitian, Social Work, Administration Support, and various visiting Specialists (Pediatrics, Psychiatry, etc). The Newcomer Health Clinic has a focused mandate to support newly arrived refugees during their first 1-2 years in Canada (ideally). Patients are supported with finding and transitioning to a family practice in the community. Interpretive services are well integrated into clinical processes and covered by provincial government. Previous experience or education in refugee health or global health is an asset but not necessary. Our team is very supportive and readily available to help learn the ropes. No matter how busy the clinic is, new physicians are always encouraged to knock on a colleague’s door if they have any questions. The most important asset is compassion. Working in refugee health is stressful and challenging, however, it is also incredibly rewarding so long as your heart is in the right place. Estimated Annual Salary – $140 000 (half-time) to $280 000 (full-time) [$160/hour + annual incentives] Responsibilities Examine patients and take their histories, order diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures Advise patients on health care, health promotion, and disease prevention Consultation and referral to other medical practitioners Act as a patient’s advocate Prescribe and administer medications and treatments, inoculations and vaccinations Report births, deaths, contagious and other diseases as per Nova Scotia Public Health requirements Expected Hours Part time to full time - to be discussed with clinic. Qualifications Eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS) Eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) Community Details Halifax, the largest urban area in Atlantic Canada and Nova Scotia's capital city, sits in the center of Nova Scotia's east coast and is an important seaport that looks out over one of the world's largest natural harbours.
