Yarmouth Regional Hospital (YRH) is seeking emergency physicians for locum coverage. Located in the Town of Yarmouth in Southwest Nova Scotia this regional hospital serves a population of approximately 60,000, in three counties. YRH was originally founded in 1912 and has developed into a vast health care complex serving the 58,000 people of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby Counties. YRH has 124 inpatient beds and provides a range of primary and secondary services through in-patient, outpatient and satellite programs: Dalhousie School of Nursing veteran’s unit chronic pain clinic kidney clinic Services: alternate level of care unit ambulatory care anesthesiology cancer care centre cardiac investigation and respiratory services continuing care diabetes education diagnostic imaging dialysis emergency medicine falls prevention intensive care unit mental health and addictions services obstetrics and gynecology occupational therapy palliative care physiotherapy pre-natal clinic public health recreation therapy spiritual care stroke program surgical unit Responsibilities examine patients, order diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures advise patients on health care, health promotion, and disease prevention consult and refer to other medical practitioners act as a patient advocate prescribe and administer medications and treatments, inoculations and vaccinations Expected Hours full-time Qualifications College of Family Physicians of Canada Emergency Medicine certification would be considered an asset all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS) all family physicians must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) emergency department experience an asset Incentives If required by the health authority to travel for the locum assignment, travel will be reimbursed as follows: Kilometrage from the Physician’s residence or regular work site (whichever is closer to the required non-regular work site) to the required locum work site, and return, at the then-prevailing Nova Scotia Government kilometrage rate (unless NSH has provided a rental car for physician’s use). Per diem of $100 per day for full day coverage; $50 for half day coverage. Accommodations at 100% to a maximum of $300 per night, receipts of which must be provided to be eligible for reimbursement. Airfare to and from Nova Scotia, where required, 100% covered at regular economy fare up to a maximum of $1,500, receipts must be provided for reimbursement. Travel time at $100 per hour up to a maximum of 10 hours return (5 hours each way) per week. No travel time or expenses are payable for travel that is less than one hour total travel time roundtrip. Licensing Fees: o For Atlantic Registry physicians the CPSNS Atlantic Registry license fee is reimbursed. o For locum physicians outside the Atlantic Registry, the CPSNS locum license fee is reimbursed.
