This position will also interact with guests in the conservatory and animal galleries providing them with a memorable experience interacting and learning about animals and their role in nature. The Educational Assistant will work closely with the Naturalist and Conservatory Manager and will assist with a diverse assortment of education and programming duties that reflect the immediate needs of the organization. Typical daily responsibilities of the Educational Assistant include delivering programs and engaging with guests. In addition, the incumbent will support operations in other departments such as Admissions, Gift Store and Café as required.This job opening is an opportunity for an energetic people-person to have fulfilling and stimulating seasonal employment.Responsibilities Deliver off-site outreach programming to schools, libraries and camps Deliver in-house and off-site education programs Assist with implementation of educational programs Deliver various education programs including onsite programs, outreach/off-site initiatives, and special event programming Contribute to community programs, outreach events and summer camps Contribute to accessibility for people with disabilities or special needs Represent Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory at relevant fairs, events, conferences, etc Interact with and provide educational and interpretive services to guests Engage visitors with information relating to insects, environment, conservation, STEM concepts (tropical ecology, butterfly biology and behaviour, insect/plant interactions, and insect ecology) Live animal demonstrations, leading Conservatory and garden tours, running educational programs and leading school programs and summer camps Follow the Consesrvatory’s CFIA protocols with respect to maintenance of the animals in the Conservatory Clean the workspaces on a regular basis Train as a Front-line floater and provide coverage for Front-line staff (specifically for Admissions, Gift Store, and Café) for lunch breaks, sick days, and vacation days, as required Occasionally fill-in other areas (i.e. Front-line, Café, Conservatory, etc.) as needed Other duties to support daily operations and customer service as assigned Assist other departments as needed Adhere to all Company policies, rules, systems and procedures which are outlined in the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory Employee Handbook, as well as all Health and Safety policies and procedures and safe work practices Qualifications, Requirements & Skills Aninterest in or pursuing post-secondary education in science, biology, conservation, education or a related field an asset Interest in insects, invertebrates, and plants an asset Adapt with changing job requirements and goals based on business needs Coordinate in a team environment and work with others to achieve shared goals Identify issues and apply solutions to fix problems across the facility and grounds Stay organized and manage time, priorities, & deadlines Exchange thoughts and information with colleagues and customers through a variety of forms Use digital technology through computer, tablet and other device’s software, systems, and applications Police Background Check (Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check) Valid Drivers’ License and clear driving record (MVR/Driver Abstract) UniformStaff are required to wear the appropriate uniform, footwear and safety equipment at all timesCompensation & BenefitsThis is a full-time fixed-term position. The shifts are typically from 9 am to 5 pm on both weekdays and weekends. The rate of pay is $17.50/hour.CBC offers an Employee Assistance Program to all employees.
