The Opportunity Reporting to the Manager, Compensation, the Compensation Consultant is a member of the People & Organization Development Team. The Consultant is responsible for salary administration and supporting both the evaluation of new and existing classifications for unionized positions and the job development, reclassification, and salary administration for management and non-union positions across the IWK. In collaboration with the Manager, the Compensation Consultant participates in labour relations strategies on union compensation, recruitment, and retention, is a resource for collective bargaining, and compensation grievances, and works closely with union partners on salary and classification implementation. The Consultant plays a key role in operational service delivery by ensuring compensation information, tools, and up-to-date job descriptions required to provide responsive, accurate, and consistent services. Actively participates as a member of compensation-related committees and working groups. Duties include but are not limited to: • Facilitates the evaluation of new unionized positions across the IWK; determines and recommends classification placement within all four bargaining units. • Facilitates the evaluation of unionized positions being appealed to determine whether there has been a substantial alteration or if a reclassification is warranted. • Collaborates on the development of new management and non-union positions and facilitates the evaluation process. • Facilitates the re-evaluation of existing management and non-union positions and any related disputes regarding salaries. • Communicates results of the evaluation and addresses any appeals. • Coordinates and provides support for corporate compensation programs and activities, such as the compensation framework, increments, step placements, and market adjustments, and partners with labour relations in the delivery of services related to these activities. • Maintains and updates position descriptions, and assists recruitment in determining appropriate posting criteria. • Develops and maintains processes and guidelines for compensation program administration and ensures compliance with collective agreements, employment guides, and legislation. • Develops and maintains tools for the department that contribute to responsive, accurate, and consistent service delivery (standard reports, tracking databases, letter templates, training manuals, etc.). • Identifies compensation strategies for hard-to-fill positions (i.e., market adjustments). • Coordinates salary plan adjustments in collaboration with organizational management on updating scales, retroactive payments, etc. • Provides support for compensation-related grievances i.e., witness on arbitrations. • Supports collective bargaining by providing compensation data, costing analysis, etc. • Ensures consistent translation of IWK culture, mission, values, policy, and leadership expectations within the programs and services. Provide visible and accessible leadership within the organization, and with key partners. Establish and maintain relationships and partnerships including unions, educators, clinical, academic, government, and research to inform decision-making on compensation-related matters. Hours of Work Monday to Friday, 75 hours biweekly. This is primarily a remote position, with occasional on-site work required. Your Qualifications • Graduate of post-secondary degree and/or Certificate Program in Human Resources required, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. • Minimum five (5) years related compensation and/or human resources experience within a unionized environment required. • Certified Compensation Professional (CPP) designation is considered an asset. • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or other relevant professional certification or designation preferred. • Membership in local and/or Human Resources Associations and other relevant organizations preferred. • Extensive knowledge of job evaluation systems, compensation trends, issues, etc. • Demonstrated up-to-date knowledge of labour trends and legislation. • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills. • Excellent communication (verbal and written), problem-solving, and decision-making skills. • Excellent consultative, influencing, and mentoring skills. • Effective work practice - accountable, dependable, flexible, persevering, sets goals and meets deadlines, results-oriented. • Excellent analytical, organizational, and decision skills. • Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively build relationships. • Knowledge of adult education and learning principles. • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint), MS Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook, and human resources information systems (preferably SAP).
