The Opportunity Reporting to the Manager of Ambulatory Surgical care, the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a Registered Nurse who promotes excellence in care through the role components of clinical expert, educator, consultant, researcher, and leader. The CNS acts as a resource, consultant and advocate for children and youth who have been or may have been neglected, physically, sexually or emotionally abused, or have witnessed and been affected by domestic violence. The CNS advances the care for children and families by collaboratively developing and incorporating standards of care through practice, education and research relating to children and youth who have been or may have been neglected, physically, sexually or emotionally abused, or have witnessed and been affected by domestic violence. As an expert clinician with theoretical knowledge, the CNS directly contributes to improved outcomes of care for children, youth, and families with complex health issues throughout the continuum of care. The CNS works in collaboration with children, youth, families, the inter-disciplinary team, and community partners. The CNS contributes to the advancement of nursing practice through role-modelling, mentoring, implementation of research, and consultation. The CNS arranges/ provides education for interdisciplinary team members throughout the Health Centre, in schools, with community partners across the Maritimes around care for children and youth who have been or may have been neglected, physically, sexually or emotionally abused, or have witnessed and been affected by domestic violence. Hours of Work 0800-1600 on Mon/Tues and 0800-1200 on Thurs. Your Qualifications • Masters or PhD in Nursing with a specialty focus in pediatrics required (Masters Degree in progress may be considered). • Registered, or eligible to be registered, with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia (CRNNS) required. • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required. • Minimum 2 years clinical experience working with children, youth, and families required. • Clinical expertise in the care of pediatric children/youth required. • Demonstrated advanced theoretical knowledge in clinical practice, consultation, leadership, education, and research. • Demonstrated ability to analyze, translate and apply evidence within unique populations and programs of care. • Demonstrated accomplishments as a nurse leader, facilitator, role model, advocate, coach and change agent. • Demonstrated advanced communication skills (verbal and written). • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-cultural situations required. • Demonstrated ability to integrate creativity and innovation into the practice of nursing. • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively (as appropriate) with interdisciplinary team colleagues, patients and families and community partners. • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain internal and external partnerships preferred. • Knowledge of community resources preferred. • Ongoing commitment to continuing self-development. • Eligible for cross appointment with the Dalhousie University School of Nursing • Competencies in other languages, preferably French an asset.
