Stan, Domestic Shorthair For Adoption In Toronto, Ontario

Price:
$200
Location:
Toronto, ON
Description:

Microchipped, DOB February 24, 2020 Stan has the most serious face! He literally studies his environment and humans, and his foster family jokes that he must be a PhD of cat/human studies! He will find one quiet corner where he can't be seen but can keep an eye and ear on what is going on around him. If he has observed his home from a small room where he can build up trust for a long time, he will slowly start to inch his way out. The very nervous and scared Stan nevertheless has a sweet nature. He is very hesitant around people, and very watchful of his environment. He will mostly hide, but as he gets to understand that he is safe, he will slowly start to come out, especially to eat and especially if there's another sweet and quiet resident cat that is trusting of Stan's new home. Stan came from a hoarding situation, so it explains why he is nervous around humans but comfortable around cats. He isn't playful or cuddly with them, but he observes other cats and feels more secure around humans when he sees another quiet cat trusting those humans. He needs a lot of time to build up basic trust in a human and in a home; for the first few months in his foster home, he actually seemed more like a feral cat, but very slowly and gradually, over more succeeding months, he built up at least enough trust to eat near his foster family and to let them pet him while he does so. Stan may most likely never be the kind of cat who will be out in the open, laying on couches or cat beds, feeling confident in his environment. He may always be a very nervous fellow. He was not rescued as a kitten but as an already adult cat, and this means it has been even more challenging for him to make changes, but his foster family *has* seen slow changes over time. He will definitely be set back once he transitions to a new forever home because his foster room is the only home he has known for a year. Once he builds up trust from a very quiet, small space (like a spare room), Stan may be one of those very rewarding cats for an adoptive parent because you will know that you are helping a little guy that would otherwise have a hard time finding a forever home. His foster family feels rewarded every time he eats and lets them pet his back. Stan's adoptive parent(s) should be someone who is more mature, quiet and has a very relaxed, quiet home with no children, not a lot of change, but perhaps with one other quiet cat around. His adopter(s) should also be experienced with very shy cats, and be willing to use Toronto Cat Rescue's recommendations for how to help him slowly transition to his new home.Adoption processAdoption fee is $200 per adult cat, and $250 for kittens (under 8 months old). This ensures that the cats that come into our care receive the attention they need, are spayed or neutered, and receive a rabies vaccination at the appropriate age. For City of Toronto residents, the adoption fee includes a mandatory City of Toronto cat license that is valid for one year. As you can imagine, these fees only begin to cover our costs; donations and ongoing fundraising efforts carry us the rest of the way! Note: -Senior cats (8 years or older) have an adoption fee of the adopter's choice, vs. our standard adult adoption fee of $200.-Our adoption fee for an adult bonded pair (8 months or older) is $150 per cat vs. $200 per cat. Thanks for giving two loving friends a home together!
