Vacancy Number: 24317 Number of positions: one Town/City: To Be Determined , Ontario (CA-ON) Business Unit: NTW OPRTNS Division: TRANS & STNS Department: CONSTRN EXEC Position type: Regular Duration of rotation: General Accountabilities: Support the Vice President, Transmission & Stations in implementing the business unit’s goals/objectives/strategies by providing leadership, direction and supervision to staff for various projects within the Province of Ontario. Supervise and lead teams of Manager, Construction Operations, Senior Forepersons, Construction General Foreman, and their support staff involving the delivery of complex projects. Provide consulting, construction management and facilitation services through all phases of project life cycles including project development, estimating, scheduling, outage staging, construction and commissioning through to project In-Service Accountabilities: Through collateral relationships with the direct reports of the Vice President, Transmission & Stations, and within context provided by the Vice President, Transmission & Stations provide the following: Supervise and lead teams of Managers, Construction Operations and their teams of Construction General Forepersons, Senior Forepersons and their support staff involved in the delivery of complex projects and be responsible for the integration of Transmission Stations and Lines, Distribution Stations and Lines, Civil, Electrical, and Environmental elements. Provide leadership and clear direction re-enforcing the requirement for the safe execution of all work. Provide consulting, construction management and facilitation services through all phases of project life cycles including project development, estimating, scheduling, outage staging, construction and commissioning through to project In-Service. Develop project construction strategies, plans and support the development of project management strategies pertaining to assets and systems while identifying opportunities for improvement and efficiencies. Develop and implement Constructability procedures and strategies related to the efficient & cost effective design of Sub stations and Transmission Lines. Deal with multi-construction labour unions/labour relations issues throughout the lifecycle of a project as Contact Supervisor for disciplinary and grievance labour relations matters. Set targets, develop programs and monitor the continuous improvement of the corporate capital project delivery program. Plan, organize and assign work to direct reports as well as develop, implement and maintain project delivery procedures and standards, including the preparation of tender documents and evaluations. Build service culture within organization, focusing on safety, flexibility, responsiveness, speed, quality and competitiveness. Provide leadership through experience, commitment to established processes, demonstration and prompt response to staff qualifications to achieve targets, plans, strategies and quality objectives to deliver service levels. Manage and perform the full lifecycle of construction work programs and resolve issues of performance, resourcing, outage management, change control, scheduling and control. Provide construction management and facilitation services through all phases of systems project life cycles; including construction needs assessment, support business case development, support approval, cost and scope control, scheduling and transition to operational status. Ensures a safe working atmosphere through training and the application of safe work methods and safety procedures and promote the Internal Responsibility Systems (IRS). Set objectives, goals, and implement the annual Health Safety & Environment program to all field staff. Selection Criteria: Requires twelve to fifteen years related skills with demonstrated progressive supervisory/managerial background. Managerial Accountabilities & Demonstrated Organizational skills: Manage the unit and achieve the targeted results through diligent and accurate oversight of the health and safety and financial aspects of the department. Maintain a team of subordinates who are capable of producing the outputs required: ensure subordinates are able and willing to produce the desired output (safe efficient execution of all work), and that subordinate managers continually improve the processes for achieving those outputs provide staffing recommendations for their function as qualifications and objectives evolve, especially in the face of new projects assess staff capability to do the required work, now and in the future conduct personal effectiveness reviews of subordinates managers/specialists to build relationships and trust, and to improve effectiveness advocate the acquisition of appropriate tools and skills to optimize the performance of staff mentor, counsel and foster the personal development of all subordinates manage the unit and achieve the approved programs and targeted results through the promotion of teamwork between the various disciplines and LOB’s across Hydro 1 generate a customer/client-focused culture, which consistently meets its promised commitments optimize all resources and encourage innovative ways to reduce costs and improve efficiencies Maintain and develop a skilled and safety conscious workforce within the department, promoting succession planning Be accountable for the outputs of others: set the appropriate context for subordinates (i.e. safety expectations, corporate strategies and policies, accountabilities, tasks, budget and programs, compliance and performance targets, expectations for continuous improvement, etc.) set an effective framework of policies and procedures for the work of the unit know and ensure own and subordinates’ compliance with all legal and regulatory qualifications, and all corporate policies and procedures, and generally accepted practices relating to the work of the unit establish a two-way working relationship with subordinates to solicit their views on conditions and potential changes affecting their work emphasizing safety and continuous improvement opportunities Provide leadership to subordinates, so that they collaborate competently, and with full commitment, with each other in pursuing the goals set: translate the corporate goals and objectives into a direction which guides the work of the unit and communicate that direction to all staff define specific tasks for subordinates which are required to achieve desired results and/or to accommodate changes required within the business operations communicate expectations regarding the collateral relationship among subordinates Provide a safe and healthy work environment: provide subordinates with appropriate knowledge, skills, info, work procedures and equipment to facilitate responsible behaviour which will protect their safety and contribute to their health provide a work environment and facilities where health and safety incidents are minimized/eliminated provide a work environment that supports and values diversity, and is free from harassment know and ensure self and subordinates comply with all legal and regulatory qualifications, corporate policies and procedures, and generally accepted practices relating to their work consistently re-enforce the expectation that all would will be executed in a safe and efficient manner Demonstrate stewardship of the assets and resources: ensure the permeation of sound decision making within the department governed by an appreciation of the corporate context. consistently demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the broader ramifications of decisions made and actions taken both personally and by subordinates.
