About the role We are currently seeking a Principal Process Engineer to join our Process Development team to provide technical leadership on the design, development, and manufacturing of interventional cardiology medical devices. You will be a mentor who will help strengthen the technical rigor of the team by leveraging your strong foundation and experience in technology development and process innovation, optimization, and design for manufacturing. As a principal engineer, you will independently lead the research, investigation, optimization and execution of a variety of complex product and process related projects. You will be leading collaborations with various departments locally and across the global Boston Scientific global network to bring technical solutions to life. This is a hybrid role with occasional travel as deemed necessary. Your responsibilities will include: Drive complex or novel assignments requiring the development of innovative processes and process characterization methodologies for existing and new technologies. Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined technologies, products, materials, processes, equipment, and/or scientific methods and may broaden BSC’s Intellectual Property in key strategic areas. Serve as a key resource or expert in one or more of the following: technology development, product design and development, process design and development, test of materials, preparation of specifications, process study, and report preparation. Initiate and complete technical activities leading to new or improved products or processes, for current programs, next generation programs and to meet strategic goals and objectives of the company. Prepare reports, publishes, and makes presentations to communicate findings. Analyze and solve problems from engineering principles, theories and concepts to a wide range of complex and advanced problems requiring novel and new innovative approaches or a major technology breakthrough. Influences decisions around alternative engineering processes, products, or equipment. Develop knowledge in a field to become a recognized leader or authority in an area of specialization and apply this knowledge in leadership roles in the company. Incorporate business policies and procedures into task completion. Understand the business needs of the company and knowledge of the customer's needs. Understand the business cycle and foresight of emerging technologies trends. Cultivate internal and external network of resources to complete tasks. Serve as a resource in the selection and training of new engineers and employees. Lead a project team, determining goals and objectives for the projects. Mentor employees by sharing technical expertise and providing feedback and guidance. Interact cross functionally and with internal and external customers. Serve as a consultant for engineering or scientific interpretations. Maintain knowledge (e.g. publications, conferences) of state-of-the-art and trends in manufacturing technologies. Mentorship and coaching of early-career team members to elevate capabilities of the team. Contribution to IP portfolio, including development of invention disclosures and patent applications. Other duties as required. Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline 9+ years of experience in engineering or related fields (or 7+ years with Master's Degree) Experience training and mentoring engineers in problem solving and process improvement tools Strong statistical background Knowledge and ability to teach Design of Experiments Experience performing multiple process characterizations across various technologies Demonstrated ability to lead and influence a highly technical group Excellent oral and written communication skills for multiple levels of an organization Experience engaging with clinicians to gain direction and product feedback Working knowledge of relevant medical device regulations and guidance (e.g., ISO 13484, ISO 14971, IEC 60601) Ability to work in an inclusive, collaborative and fast-paced environment with minimal direction, including on global teams Ability to travel (~10%) domestically and internationally Preferred qualifications: Design of catheters, dilators, needles, guidewires Braiding and coiling Induction and RF heating systems Polymer/Metal component design and manufacturing Part design Injection molding Reflow Bonding / Welding Heat treatments Casting Fixture and tooling design Automated work cell and equipment design Mechanical mechanism design and analysis Electrical PCB and cable/harness design Requisition ID: 579821 As a leader in medical science for more than 40 years, we are committed to solving the challenges that matter most – united by a deep caring for human life.
