Tiercon is an automotive supplier committed to the manufacture of quality exterior and interior trim and bumper systems used as original equipment in the automotive markets. Headquartered in Stoney Creek, the plants have moulding, painting and assembly capability, employing approx 450 people throughout three Canadian facilities, and one US facility. Tiercon is seeking a knowledgeable, self directed, experienced and hard working individual interested in the automotive industry as MOLD PROCESS ENGINEERING at our Stoney Creek facility. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Promotes an atmosphere conscious of environmental, safety and health practices, ensuring compliance with all quality and safety protocols. Understands and performs daily position assignments in a manner which supports the plant's goals and quality objectives. Provides technical support to plant quality with participation and engineering analysis of quality rejections for existing product. Provides technical support to plant manufacturing with participation in lean and cost savings projects and scrap reduction. Provides technical support to plant maintenance with support for repair, replacement, and upgrade of assembly tools and existing production equipment. Provides technical support for plant engineering department and divisional engineering in the development of new products. Assists in the development of injection mold set-up/processing sheets, procedures and instructions for Prototype and Production sampling. Supports new product launches utilizing APQP process, including support for new capital requests. Support the product development process as an advisor to the design process, driving technical solutions to support manufacturing World-Class injection mold designs. Improve standards for part design. Assignments include from design concept, Mold Flow, and processing through to the manufacturing process. Extensive familiarity with plastic processing. Understanding of injection mold processing using a wide variety of commodity and engineering grade plastics. Expertise to evaluate molding and tooling problems for best solutions. Expertise to manage complex assignment priorities. Assure product and process quality by setting process variables; establishing standards; and confirming all sampling processes. Develop and maintain process documentation Responsible for the daily activities of the technical aspects of the molding processes to ensure that a controlled stable process is being run and that overall safety practices are being followed. Ensure that proper start-up, shut-down, and troubleshooting procedures are being followed . Support Continuous Improvement by suggesting longer term processing solutions that will reduce costs by way of improved scrap rates and optimized efficiency. Ensure all processes are running to baseline and that any changes are properly evaluated and documented with the appropriate change form. Investigate new technologies and determine their viability to our products (conformal cooling, pulse cooling, cavity pressure sensors, electric servo valve gate systems, etc.) Review drawings, analyze tooling, and recommend improvements leading to increased productivity, quality, and safety. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to process technicians, operators and other molding personnel. PROCESS ENGINEER SKILLS In-depth knowledge of Scientific Moulding Techniques (Gate Seal Study, Cavity Balance, Rheology Study, etc.) and Decoupled Moulding Techniques. Background with analyzing Moldflow results to assure optimum part processing, cooling efficiency and quality. Determine that all Moldflow results are within limits for: Cavity fill pressure and balance. Part, melt and tool steel temperatures. Shear rate and shear stresses. Sink marks and weld/meld lines. Cycle time. Warp and deflections. Expertise to transfer moulding processes to different machines using engineering calculations to determine the machines suitability for production of the product. Experienced with sequential valve gated tooling and equipment. Extensive background trouble-shooting moulding processes, machines and aux equipment (dryers, water temperature controllers, hot runner systems, etc.) Expertise to assist in the quoting process for new parts: Cycle time estimation. Determine suitability of existing equipment. The expertise to mentor and provide training to other injection molding personnel. Knowledgeable in tool design, gating, hot runner systems and valve gates. Background with hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical and electronic controls.
