Manager, Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting
Brookfield Properties is a fully-integrated, global real estate services company, providing industry-leading development and portfolio management capabilities across the real estate investment strategies of Brookfield Asset Management.As a key member of the Corporate Accounting team the Manager will be responsible for overseeing the Canadian portfolio. Responsibilities include the timely completion and accuracy of financial reporting analysis, forecasting/budgeting, and legal entities reporting and maintenance. Effective communication expertise and team focus will be necessary to develop relationships with the Regional Accounting teams and Asset Management.RESPONSIBILITIES:Quarterly Reporting: Review and preparation of financial details and variance analyses for: Monthly close requirements Quarterly internal package, supporting schedules and presentations to BPY Portfolio Board reporting Preparation of consolidated financial statements and notes for various Canadian corporate entities for quarterly debt reporting to lenders Regional fee and G&A reporting to parent Review and oversee process for preparation of legal entity financial statements to provide for tax compliance and maintain legal structure: Work with legal and tax department to ensure dividends are declared / contributions are approved in connection with cashflows and as required by organizational documents or tax teams Review copies of legal agreements to assess accounting implications Review legal entity statements and other supporting detail Reconcile entries and legal entity statements to the final steps memos, organizational documents, closing documents etc. Ensure compliance of mortgage loan covenants through review of financial details sent to lenders Budgeting and Forecasting Prepare/review financial schedules, templates, presentations for the monthly/quarterly forecast and annual budget Prepare 12-month cash forecast for BPY capital plan consolidation Prepare budget for corporate adjustments such as acquisitions/dispositions, corporate G&A etc. Provide guidance to Regional Accounting teams as required Prepare variance explanations and trend analysis to facilitate review of property budgets Financial Reporting and audits (internal and external reporting): Act as a liaison between external and internal auditors and the accounting team Timely and accurate submission of legal entity financial statements and audit supporting documents Prepare financial statements and notes for debt covenant reporting requirements. Prepare supporting documents required to support external auditors of statements. Other/Projects: Fulfill ad-hoc financial analysis from Asset Management and/or Corporate Accounting Preparation of ad hoc accounting memos and analysis Assist with the analysis and implementation of new accounting pronouncements Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned REQUIREMENTSSERVICE / PERSONAL SKILLS: Service oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, both oral and written Team focused, mature and outgoing Excellent management skills, with the expertise to manage multiple projects or tasks simultaneously Analytical and very detail oriented with advanced problem-solving capabilities BACKGROUND & TECHINCAL SKILLS: Min of five years’ background in Property Accounting, Public Accounting, or Financial Analysis University Degree or College degree in an accounting related position of study A professional accounting designation such as CPA is preferred EDUCATION/DESIGNATIONS/LICENSES: Advanced Accounting and/or financial analysis knowledge In-depth knowledge of IFRS Comfortable dealing with external auditors Background in analysis and review of financial statements Advanced knowledge of Microsoft excel, Microsoft word, and Power Point Exposure to Yardi and Wdesk is considered an asset Brookfield is committed to accommodating the individual needs of all candidates with disabilities during the recruitment and selection process as required under the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
