Your Opportunity: The Health Details Management Professional II is a working leader who performs a leadership role in Health Info Management (Health Details/Records Management (HI/RM) and Patient Registration) and reports directly to the Supervisor, HIM, Central Zone - South. This position is responsible and accountable for providing direction, team leadership and organization over the day to day activities of the HIM areas within the Drumheller and 3 Hills Health Centres (and a possible 3rd site to be determined); in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. The position is responsible and accountable for making unit-level decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement of goals of HIM. Assignments include: Direct and indirect supervision of the HIM staff by leading and guiding staff to ensure quality care and services. Resolution of issues related to day to day operations, staffing requirements, scheduling, and work flow management and balance. Management of HI/RM records (regardless of medium) to ensure content compliance, completeness and availability for patient care, teaching, research, administrative and legal purposes in accordance with HIM standards. Timely and accurate data collection in compliance with recognized standards - this HIM team codes and abstracts for Drumheller and 3 Hills Health Centres and will also be required to code and abstract for other sites. Ensures efficient operations and supervision for the area, with a goal to maximizing operational best practices by streamlining current work flow, applying strong organizational skills and analyzing current practices. You will be responsible for the coordination of daily operations as well as training new staff in your assigned area. You will deliver operational guidance and support to ensure that clinical details is timely, accurate and valid. Active or eligible for registration with the Canadian Health Details Management Association (CHIMA). Additional Minimum experience: 1 to 2yrs related managerial background desired. Must have demonstrated leadership abilities. Thorough knowledge of Health Details/Records Management. At least 5 years’ background in coding and abstracting using the current classification system. Knowledge of health records details systems and processes. Knowledge of access and disclosure rules in keeping with the Health Info Act of Alberta and the Freedom of Info and Protection of Privacy Act of Alberta is required. Previous background with an Admission / Discharge/Transfer program desired, preferably Meditech. Strong technical skills. Strong organizational and planning skills. Must possess and demonstrate exceptional people skills, be self-motivated, flexible, and be able to meet deadlines within a changing, fast-paced workplace environment. Must be able to maintain poise under pressure. Must have effective communication abilities using the English language to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively. An excellent attendance record, reliability and personal suitability must be demonstrated through employment references. Preferred Requirements: Able to maintain credentials with the Canadian College of Health Details Management Professionals and be an active member, in good standing, of CHIMA.
