As the largest test lab on the west coast of North America, the High Voltage lab is capable of conducting distribution-to transmission-level high-voltage tests on all types of equipment, including transformers, insulators, switchgear, bushings, cables and accessories, instrument transformers, transmission line hardware, surge arrestors, SF6 insulated equipment, generators, insulated aerial lift devices, and transformer rectifier units (TRUs). The lab offers a full range of qualification and certification tests to IEEE, IEC, CSA, ANSI and other international standards, as well as custom testing solutions. Condition assessment tests may be performed in the field or in the lab to evaluate the equipment condition. Reporting to the Division Manager, the ideal candidate will bring a solid understanding of electrical engineering principles with a focus on high voltage systems. Applicants with previous high voltage testing experience and project management skills in a fast-paced environment are highly desired. The successful applicant is expected to lead and execute high voltage laboratory and field tests and prepare test proposals according to client specifications, international standards and laboratory procedures. Other duties include : * Support the day-to-day operations of the high voltage lab, including setup, calibration, and maintenance of testing equipment.* Create test proposals including costing for various tests and reviewing associated test standards in a timely manner.* Manage multiple projects simultaneously and demonstrate strong coordination skills with internal teams and external clients to ensure timely completion and delivery of results.* Troubleshoot engineering problems and technical issues encountered during testing, propose solutions and implement corrective measures as needed.* Act as a primary point of contact for clients by promptly responding to inquiries, updates on project progress and addressing any concerns or issues that may arise.* Represent the High voltage lab around the globe during trade shows, standards committee meetings and conferences; this position may require both local and international travel.* Maintain detailed records of test procedures, results, and any relevant observations, ensuring accuracy and completeness for future reference.* Stay updated on technical advancements in high voltage technology and testing methodologies and actively seek opportunities for professional development .* Imparts engineering knowledge and encourages the professional development of EITs and other staff. * Support quality, safety and maintenance improvements in the lab while ensuring all equipment is maintained properly* Exercise a high degree of independent judgment to solve low to medium complexity level problems Qualifications* Electrical engineering degree from a recognized University.* Three to five years of electrical engineering experience, preferably in one or more of the following broad fields :high-voltage laboratory testing (e.g. distribution or transmission voltage class), high voltage equipment failure analysis, high-voltage field testing and commissioning, T&D operations and maintenance practices.* Registration or ability to immediately register as a professional engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (i.e., non-British Columbia registrations are acceptable as long as there is an ability to immediately transfer the accreditation).In addition, the following are desired competencies: * Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, and Outlook.Experience with databases is an asset.* Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences and stakeholders.* Able to listen and encourage open dialogue with project team members. Able to receive constructive feedback and present alternate points of view to Managers and stakeholders.* Uncompromising dedication to safety and quality.* Ability to work independently and with a team and role model high standards of professionalism. Job status : Full time Regular Job location : Surrey - in officeJob grade : P2Salary Range: $87,720 - $103,200Note : candidates with lesser qualifications and experience will be considered at a more appropriate grade level.
