The Department of Statistics at the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver Campus invites applications for a full-time, three-year Data Science Lecturer appointment commencing September 1, 2024, or earlier. The appointment may be renewed subject to the need of the department, availability of funding, and demonstration of excellence in teaching. The terms and conditions of the Lecturer appointment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between UBC and the UBC Faculty Association.The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of six three-credit courses in the Master of Data Science (MDS) program and undergraduate Data Science programs in each year of the term appointment.It is anticipated that applicants will hold a Ph.D. degree in Statistics, Data Science, or a related field, have prior university teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and have demonstrated evidence of high-quality instruction at both levels. Interest and aptitude in teaching data science courses in the MDS program and in first year undergraduate data-science course are required. Instructors in this course need to have skills in version control (e.g., via Git and GitHub), Quarto literate code documents, and Python and R programming. Interest and aptitude in also mentoring MDS capstone projects is also required.Applicants must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills including co-teaching experience or aptitude and supervisory skills (e.g. TA supervision). The successful candidate will also be expected to have interest and aptitude in using active learning techniques and various educational technologies.The expected pay range for this position is $4,779.56/month - $8,333.33/month. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
