Lyra, Domestic Shorthair For Adoption In Toronto, Ontario

Price:
$200
Location:
Toronto, ON
Description:

DOB: July 13, 2021- FIV/FeLV Negative Lyra is confident, playful, energetic, friendly and affectionate. She especially loves interactive play. Lyra is intelligent and curious; she likes to investigate and can jump very high. A home that can be catified with vertical space in mind would be great for her. Lyra has sensitive hearing. Although she seems good with music at a normal volume and that sort of thing, a home that is very noisy would likely not be a good fit for her. Lyra is a chatty girl, and will tell you all about her day and her desires. Lyra is friendly and outgoing; she enjoys meeting new people. She can be cuddly, especially if she is sleepy, and she likes to snuggle up next to her foster mom on the couch. She will sometimes surprise her foster mom with little gestures of affection, like resting her head or her paw on her, or purring into her ear like a motorboat. Lyra is very interested in running water, and enjoys foraging as an interesting way to eat her kibble. She enjoys sitting in the window and browsing some cat grass, but she does not eat your plants, other than the occasional exploratory nibble. Lyra is good at using her vertical scratchers and has not scratched the furniture. Lyra is not currently allowed in the bedroom, so if you don’t want her sleeping with you that shouldn’t be a problem. Lyra would likely enjoy sleeping on your bed if you let her. However, she delights in pouncing on legs and feet moving under the blankets, so you would need to work on this behavior with her if you would like night time cuddles. Lyra is smart and sensitive, and she is very receptive to training. In the past, she has shown scavenging behaviors, likely due to food insecurity, but with deliberate strategies this is no longer much of an issue in her current foster home. We have worked on some positive association with her carrier, and she surprised her foster mom by going and sitting in it out of the blue, after she had previously only been willing to run in and out to get a treat. Lyra adapted well to her foster mom’s work from home routine, and she sat or napped patiently in her cat tree beside her foster mom’s desk while she was on zoom (at least most of the time). Consistency and routine, to the extent that you can provide them, are very beneficial for your relationship with Lyra and will help create trust. Although she is not a chill cat per se she definitely has her chill times, and overall, she is becoming more relaxed over time. Lyra has a strong personality and likes to be in charge. She will likely test boundaries. It may take her a while to learn what is ok, and not ok, in your household. With kind persistence, you can show her that you are the biggest kitty. For the right humans, Lyra will be a wonderful companion, and a lot of fun for someone who shares her adventurous spirit.Adoption processAdoption fee is $200 per adult cat, and $250 for kittens (under 8 months old). This ensures that the cats that come into our care receive the attention they need, are spayed or neutered, and receive a rabies vaccination at the appropriate age. For City of Toronto residents, the adoption fee includes a mandatory City of Toronto cat license that is valid for one year. As you can imagine, these fees only begin to cover our costs; donations and ongoing fundraising efforts carry us the rest of the way! Note: -Senior cats (8 years or older) have an adoption fee of the adopter's choice, vs. our standard adult adoption fee of $200.-Our adoption fee for an adult bonded pair (8 months or older) is $150 per cat vs. $200 per cat. Thanks for giving two loving friends a home together!
