Competition #2024-204-CS IT Help Desk Assistant – Canada Summer Jobs Employment Type: 8 Week Contract, Bargaining Unit Work Hours: 35 hours/week Work Setting: Onsite – Limited Opportunities to Work Remotely Salary: B - $19.75 Application Deadline: May 13 th , 2024, by 11:59 pm Program Overview – Information Systems, Central Services As a part of WoodGreen Central Services infrastructure, the Information Systems (IS) department provides data processing services to the agency through the effective utilization of existing and new information technology. IS implements and supports technologies and processes that will increase service to staff and clients to enhance productivity. What You Will Do Field incoming help requests from end users via telephone or e-mail in a courteous manner. Document all pertinent end user identification information, including name, department, contact information, and nature of problem or issue. Prioritize, schedule, and escalate problems (when required) to the appropriate technician. Record, track, and document the help desk request problem-solving process, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made, actions taken, and final resolution. Apply diagnostic utilities to aid in troubleshooting and install anti-virus software. Access software updates, drivers, knowledge bases, and develop help sheets and frequently asked questions resources on the Internet to aid in problem resolution. Identify and learn appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization. Perform hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, hardware, implementing file backups, and configuring systems and applications. Perform preventative maintenance, including checking and cleaning of workstations, printers, and peripherals and perform post-resolution follow-ups to help requests. Test fixes to ensure problem has been adequately resolved. Work effectively with the Central Services staff and all users of the computing facilities. Ensure anti-racism objectives and community development principles are achieved. What You Bring to the Team College diploma or university degree in computer science or 1-year equivalent work experience. Certifications in Microsoft Desktop environment. Knowledge of computer hardware, including PCs and Laptops. Experience with Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft Office, McAfee Anti-Virus, Adobe and a range of diagnostic utilities. Excellent written, oral communication, and documentation skills. Must meet the participant requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs Agreement with Employment and Social Development Canada as outlined: be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and, have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. *The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period. **International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
