Position Summary: Reporting to the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Therapist is responsible for supervising Recreation Therapy services staff at both Villa Marguerite / Sprucewood Place. This individual will provide treatments and/or group programs for Residents and act as a consultant to other members of the interdisciplinary team. Works in collaboration with other Recreation Therapists, Recreation Therapy Assistants, and other Departments to coordinate and implement Recreation programs. You will comply with all relevant provincial organizational practice standards for Therapeutic Recreation. The Recreation Therapist will ensure a commitment to resident safety and to our “culture of safety” as per PPSL Strategic Directions. This is a Temporary Full-Time Position (approximately 1 year) Monday to Fridays (in-person) Salary: $68,250 - 72,150 per year Qualifications: Degree or Diploma in an accredited school for Therapeutic Recreation. Must be eligible for membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association. (ATRA). 2-3 years’ experience in working with mental health, Alzheimer and dementia and Physical disabilities Residents. 2-3 years’ experience planning, implementing and evaluating volunteer program. 2-3 years’ experience in a Supervisory role Computer knowledge Strong interpersonal skills to deal with effectively with conflict and issues in a professional manner. Excellent listening skills Communicates fluently in English both verbally and in writing. Teamwork and Collaboration: Demonstrates ability to work together with others toward shared goals and desired outcomes . Other considerations: All PPE is provided, and the facility is following enhanced Infection and prevention controls. Applicants must be fully vaccinated for Covid -19 and have an up-to-date Flu Shot vaccination. Typical Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for supervising and leading Recreation Therapy Assistants/Volunteers at both Villa Marguerite / Sprucewood Place. Oversees new recreation staff orientation and new hire packages. Assists with new staff orientation and routine performance appraisals as allocated. Offers staff mentoring, education, attendance management and/or discipline as required up to and including termination with support of Recreation Manager. Facilitates staff participation and engagement in problem solving and develops a positive work environment. On-call rotation to assist and support the recreation staff with emergent/urgent situations/absences. Implements/ facilitates and monitors recreation programs to meet physical, emotional, social, spiritual, cognitive needs of each resident. Utilize the Therapeutic Recreation Standards of practice to ensure holistic care in accordance to PPSC care standards. Develops specifically the Recreation component in the Care Plans to meet the needs of the residents, based on assessment, patient interests and goals. Collect and observe residents Recreation Program Attendance, engagement and progress during therapeutic programs and modify if necessary. Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate therapeutic programs for various populations. Adapt programs to meet the needs of the resident. Demonstrate the ability to recognize cultural/ religious diversity of residents, staff, families, and volunteers. Participate in the multi-interdisciplinary team meetings. Attend and participate in Resident/ Family Case Conferences. Adhere and make sure staff adhere to infection and control measures. Attends monthly Care Meetings and participates in setting goals for individual Residents. Responsibility for recruitment of volunteers including interviewing, screening, placement, orientation, ongoing education, evaluation, and termination if required. Designs, develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive volunteer program that supports the needs of the residents, families, staff, and volunteers. Works with the interdisciplinary team in identification of and response to resident, family, staff, and volunteers needs. Complete the PPSL recreation audits and surveys related to volunteer service quality assurance program, Recreation Programs and Spiritual Care. Attends Your voice home quality resident and Family council meetings. Utilizes information to develop recreation therapy programs and ideas for VM and SP Manages goals/ objectives and outcomes of Therapeutic Recreation Intervention Plans. Collaborates with care team and AHS (case managers and MHOT) to meet residents’ goals. Facilitates plans and delegates Recreation Therapy Assistants for specific interventions. Facilitate weekly Functional Intervention meetings with Recreation therapy assistants and reports month the results to Recreation Manager. Develops and plans Recreation Program Calendars for the assigned population at VM and SP. Responsible for charting pertinent information on a resident Multidisciplinary Notes. Responsible for the Community Resource Centre and Information Boards to have pertinent information and resources our various population needs. Responsible that Recreation staff /Volunteers to adhere to safe work procedures and that residents are safe in their environment. Assist in developing policy and procedures for the recreation department and Volunteer Program. Maintains good relations with the community through participation in/ and development of community-based program, including contact with community agencies. Purchase supplies needed by the Recreation Department weekly/monthly. Petty Cash will be supplied and managed by Recreation Manager. Develops implements, facilitates, and evaluates Recreation participation programs, Leisure education and Functional intervention. Ensures poster requests and food requisitions are complete and submitted on time. Develops and educates HCA’s on WW and NYPSL on recreation programs and how to facilitate and engage residents in meaningful activities. Collect and analyze Resident participation and monitors program attendance and staff completion. Attends Recreation Therapist meeting every 3 weeks and Recreation Therapy assistant meetings at VM and SP monthly. Other meetings as required.
