***AT SHELTER***Shadow is coming out of the shadows!But the long shadow of his past still looms over this cat. Shadow roamed the streets for several years as part of a cat colony, watched over by a kindly cat lover. Eventually, Shadow made his way to the EHS where he waits warily to find a forever home. While he is used to the presence of other cats, he didn't have any opportunities to interact with people.Today, this beautiful, all-black cat is still skittish, preferring to be admired from a distance initially. He sometimes hisses at strangers and has been known to bat gently at the approach of unknown hands. As a session continues, however, he usually relaxes and will seek out affection when he's feeling comfortable.Don't let his rough beginnings overshadow your opinion of this gentle giant. Shadow has a big heart and has already found kindred spirits amongst his two kennel-mates, snuggling with them in a group cuddle. As he begins to trust our staff, he really appreciates strokes with a toothbrush, leaning into the contact, kneading with delight, and purring up a storm. When feeling benevolent, he'll accept short bouts of petting on the head. Shadow has FIV, which is a virus that weakens the immune system of a cat. It is not transmissible to humans or other species. Cats with FIV can live just as long as other cats if they are properly cared for, with a good diet, an indoor home, a loving family, and vet checkups twice a year. Shadow does not require medication. Shadow would do best in a calm, quiet household with a patient adopter who will take the time to build his trust and confidence. He may do well with a friendly feline companion who is also FIV+. At this point, we don't know how he would fare with small children. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, there is a great future for this feline. Will he be the one to brighten your home? Take home an adult feline friend for your kitty and the adoption fee for the pair is $300! For kittens under six months of age, the adoption fee is $200... Or double your cuteness quotient and adopt two wee furballs for $350! If you mix and match (kitten plus cat), the adoption fee is $300. Each of our cats is spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, snap tested for FIV/FeLV, dewormed, and flea treated prior to adoption.
