Max exhibits fear-based aggression towards strangers, with a strong aversion to men specifically. Max has shown that he can accept new women coming into his foster home, and has had a couple positive interactions with men! Max is a fearful dog and it will take several weeks/months for him to become fully comfortable with his new person. His adopter will need to take things very slowly with Max and not force him to interact until he is ready. He needs a stable home that doesn’t anticipate any changes in the upcoming decade (for example not planning on having children or moving into a group housing situation.) Ongoing behavior modification and management for life (including leashing or muzzling around all humans who aren’t his owner) will be required and will be provided for free through the rescue. The transition to his new home will be slow and adopters must be willing to come for several visits at his current foster home before having him brought over.While Max is good with other animals (including dog-savvy cats), he would not do well in a home with other reactive or aggressive dogs as this arousal will escalate his behavioral problems. He will also mark on occasion, so it’s best not to have new dogs coming and going frequently.He walks well on a leash but should be muzzled when outside his home. He can be vocal to outside stimulus (if he hears or sees people out the window or through the fenced backyard), especially until he gets used to his environment. For this reason he is not suited to live in any apartment or condo type buildings. Using background noise and restricting access to windows has significantly improved this behavior in foster.Lastly, Max is extremely afraid of car rides and gets car sick, so he would not be suited to a family that goes camping or on road trips frequently. Max is muzzle trained, very food motivated and has a very goofy and happy disposition when he’s not worrying about strangers. He loves to do zoomies and spins in circles when he’s excited. Once he is fully comfortable with you, he is very affectionate. Aside from Max’s aversion to strangers, he is a calm dog who is easy to manage in the right home.Max is neutered and up to date with vaccines. His adoption fee is $350. All adopters must agree not to use any punitive training methods including, but not limited to, leash corrections; pinning; alpha rolls; and prong, pinch, choke, shock, or e-collars.
