Program Assistant Full Time, One year Contract Autism Ontario is a charitable organization with a history of over 50 years representing the thousands of people on the autism spectrum and their families across Ontario. Made up of knowledgeable parents, professionals, and autistic self-advocates who can speak to the key issues that impact autistic individuals and their families, Autism Ontario is the province’s leading source of information and referral on autism, and one of the largest collective voices representing the autism community. Members are connected through a volunteer network of seven regions throughout the Province of Ontario. Job Specifications: Title: Program Assistant Annual Salary: $50,000 - $55,000 Hours: 37.5 hours per week, with evening and weekends required depending upon the needs of the program Reports to: Program and Volunteer Coordinator Location: This is a hybrid position, working out of our London office (1125 Wonderland Rd, London, On, N6G 2V9) or other locations as needed Duration: One year contract with the possibility of extension Position Summary: Reporting to the Program and Volunteer Coordinator, the Program Assistant provides an excellent level of customer service to both internal and external stakeholders, as well as the general public. The Program Assistant supports the development of regional programming in the assigned area. Key Responsibilities: Work in conjunction with the Program and Volunteer Coordinator to develop programming in their respective region. Participate in team decisions and discussions to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the department. Support volunteers (parents, self-advocates, and professionals) in achieving the identified goals. Research, propose and execute activities for in person and/or virtual programming. Provide support and assistance for regional events. Liaise with community partners, members of the public, and other professionals. Facilitate workshops of interest to adults, families and the general community. Act as a role model for staff, volunteers, and participants, creating a positive team atmosphere. Educate adults with ASD and their families to other community services and programs. Maintain database operations as they pertain to programs (i.e.-recording participants, program payments, etc). Assist in supporting fundraising efforts to programs in partnership with Regional Staff. Other duties as assigned Qualifications: At least 1 year post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent work experience. Minimum 2 years’ experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and a sound understanding of issues faced by people with autism, intellectual or developmental disabilities. Current Standard First Aid certification an asset. Current behaviour management certification (i.e. Safety Care, NVCI, etc.) an asset. Previous experience in program development or delivery in the field of ASD for children or adults. Demonstrated leadership experience. Ability to work independently, responsibly, and productively within the time allotted. Demonstrated effectiveness in working within the voluntary/non-profit sector. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent computer skills, including MS Office and databases. Strong problem-solving capabilities. Knowledge of child development. Fluency in French is an asset.
