TWD is currently seeking an Engineer IEC to support our client based in Brampton, Ontario. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Education Engineering Degree and Professional Engineering Status in Ontario Power Generation experience specifically the knowledge and experience with NERC compliances and standards. Experience: Typically skills are developed with between 5+ years of experience in practicing engineering after attaining P.Eng designation including a minimum of 3 years of dedicated engineering experience in an operating plant setting. Experience equivalencies may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Technical Skills Advanced understanding of Electrical system design, maintenance and compliance to codes and standards and/or Instrumentation and Controls engineering/technical knowledge (PLCs, DCS and analytical instruments). Thorough understanding of maintenance processes, methods and techniques as they apply in an industrial setting, with a focus on power generation systems. Strong communication skills (written, spoken). Results Delivery Uses sound engineering principles and prepares technical solutions to highly complex and diverse Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls problems at their assigned asset. Completes the design and manages the execution of complex repair tasks related to Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls engineering as required. Provides detailed interpretation of laws, regulations, statutes and standards associated with the Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls engineering discipline as required to facilitate the operations and maintenance of their assigned facility. Business Decisions Evaluates the economic benefits of proposed technical solutions and provides recommendations of alternate solutions as required. Provides input into recruitment strategies and performance assessments for Engineering Students, Engineers in Training (EITs) and Engineers. Provides input into the Asset Engineering business plan to help shape the practice of Asset Engineering. Provides technical direction to contract and maintenance staff to facilitate the completion of Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls related tasks. This includes mentoring staff to foster a greater understanding of the impact of robust practices, and the positive impact on the operational status of the station. Business Solutions Independently acquires and uses technical and professional information or skills to synthesize solutions to highly diverse and highly complex Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls issues in order to effectively serve asset needs Develops predictive tools, modifies maintenance practices, reviews of the outputs from predictive and preventative maintenance tasks, and implements design changes to increase reliability without disruption to production processes at their assigned facility. Reviews, understands, and applies both internal engineering standards and industry codes and standards. Develops internal engineering standards Contributes to organizational change initiatives where appropriate through front end input as well as post implementation support. Risk Management Ownership and accountability is taken for work tasks and deliverables. Seeks advice (when required) from a technical and work process perspective, with discussions about the most effective way to complete a given deliverable. Participates in the Peer Review process to ensure the responsible practice of engineering at Capital Power, in compliance with the Professional Practice Management Plan. Responsible for Management of Change compliance and review for their assigned asset. Acts as a role model by demonstrating a focus on HSE related concerns by timely completion of tasks such as inspections, audits, HSE related work orders. Assists in the development and interpretation of Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls engineering related HSE standards and procedures Relationships & Development Works collaboratively with other members of the Engineering Department and builds strong relationships with other work groups to integrate sound Asset Engineering practices into both the day to day and long term efforts of Capital Power. Integrate into the Operations management team for assigned asset, and provide Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls engineering insight into the operations and maintenance activities of the facility. Provide O&M insight to the engineering group to advance the creation of effective solutions to facility issues. Provides leadership, mentoring and guidance to Engineering Students, Engineers in Training (EITs) and Engineers throughout the Engineering Group. This includes providing input into development plans for these employees. Takes action to continually improve technical and management skillset through formal and informal training opportunities.
