How gentle is she? When she takes a treat from your hand, you have to check to see if she actually took the treat. She very rarely jumps us, but when she does, she is gentle and responds quickly to correction. Tammy will lick you to let you know she loves you and that she is so very grateful for being rescued. When the humans settle, so does Tammy. She will curl up to watch you read a book or do yoga. She loves everyone in the house equally, no favourites for this girl. Tammy would be fine as an only dog or with another equally respectful calm dog or cat companion. Tammy is always keen to go for a walk or snoop around the yard, keeping squirrels away from your garden. She is not being crated at her fosters as she has shown no interest in chewing or getting on furniture. We believe she can be considered house-trained, because there have been NO accidents in the house, but she has had very frequent access to the backyard to tend to to her affairs. Tammy has been left alone for as long as three hours with no ill-effects whatsoever. Leash training is a work in process, nonetheless she is showing promise at learning this new skill. She does react to dogs passing her by pulling and trying to reach them, but responds quickly to being corrected. Recently a few dogs passed her while walking and she showed no interest so we believe with just correction her reactivity will improve. She has been known to bark in the shelter but has not shown this tendency in her foster home. For this reason we would not recommend her for an apartment or a condo. A home with a fenced back yard would be ideal for her.Tammy does have some hip issues so hiking and running are not ideal for her. She does love her walks and patiently waits for her harness and leash to be put on. Tammy is definitely ready for her forever home.
