Adopt Miko - Adoption Pending a Black German Shepherd Dog / Mixed dog in
Miko / M / Approximately. two years / German Shepard Dog / Erin ON Introducing Miko! Through no fault of his own, Miko was surrendered to Fetch & Releash by his previous family. He is described as a gentle and smart boy, who can’t wait for a family to call his own. He’s learning a lot of good behaviours with his foster family, and loves being with his people. He is a lovable and affectionate boy looking for a family to expose his full potential! Miko’s favorite activities include fetch, walks, playing outside and being with his people. He would appreciate and active family, who love the nice outdoors as much as he does. Given how much he loves to be around his people, he would appreciate a family who is home more often than not. Miko is housetrained, as long as he is provided with consistent opportunities to use the washroom. He adores people and dogs, and is very friendly once he warms up to newcomers. He has not been tested with kids, but given his gentle nature we predict he would do find with older, respectful kids who understand dog etiquette. True to his breed, Miko bonds strongly with his people, and has expressed some separation anxiety in his foster home. He will whine when left alone, but given he has received adequate exercise, settles down fairly quickly. He startles easily so will require a patient and calm leader to continue building his confidence in his forever home. He is an extremely sensitive boy, so will need someone 100% committed to positive reinforcement based training. He is currently trying to overcome his fear of entering rooms, and is working on taking the stairs as well. He would be okay in a house with stairs, but more work is needed to get him comfortable conquering this obstacle. Miko is a very smart dog, and is adapting extremely well to all the new expectations of him. He has likely had very little exposure to leash walking, but is learning fast. He will require a strong leash handler while in training, as he will pull when he wants to get to something. He knows sit, and is working on stay, and recall. He is easily distracted when outside, so recall should be a priority to ensure his safety at all times. As he works through some of his fears, Miko should always be leashed while outside. His new family should be committed to continuing his obedience training, socialization and confidence building. He’d love to learn more and is a well behaved boy. Miko’s ideal family would live in a detached home, with a fully fenced yard. He does startle when he hears loud or unexpected noises, so all backyard time should be monitored. He will bark when he hears something to protect his space, but is easily redirected and responsive to his foster family. He likes to go outside and would be happiest in a quiet neighbourhood, outside of the downtown core. He’s a very wonderful boy looking for a family who has lots of time and love to give him. He would do well in a home with another well balanced canine foster sibling, but is looking for a home without cats.
