Adopt Dooley - Adoption Pending a White - with Tan, Yellow or Fawn Wheaten
PLEASE READ: Before submitting an application for Dooley, please ensure you have read his bio below thoroughly. He is looking for a specific home, and has specific training needs and requirements. Only applicants who meet the criteria will be contacted. Dooley / M / Approximately. 2 yrs / 38 pounds / Wheaten Terrier x Poodle / Keswick Meet Dooley! Dooley found himself in a tough spot a few months ago, with his options running out. Lucky for Dooley, the power of social media alerted local rescue workers and Fetch & Releash was able to provide him with the opportunity to start over. After spending the last month decompressing and gaining confidence in his loving foster home, he is now ready for a very special person to call his own. Dooley’s foster describes him as affectionate, smart, sensitive and playful. Dooley loves his people- and would appreciate a person with lots of time to spend with him. His favorite activities include going for long walks, playing with his toys, and chin scratches! Dooley is a timid dog- who lacks confidence and some fundamental social skills. This is likely due to lack of socialization during key stages of his life. In saying this, he will need a patient, calm and well balanced leader to continue his growth in this area. When given time to decompress in a new environment, he will open up. When people enter the home he is often very excited, but as long as any unstable energy is not rewarded, he settles quickly. Dooley can be in a home with other residents dogs, however proper introductions must be made and the early stages of their relationship will require supervision. He can be slightly picky with his canine partners, so his forever family should expect an adjustment period and be comfortable managing their interactions. He has virtually no prey drive, so he would do fine in a home with cats. True to his breed, Dooley is very smart and trainable. He will require more mental stimulation and physical exercise than your average dog, so his adopter will need to have a plan in place for his success. Along with continued obedience & trick training, he would appreciate mental games and enrichment activities throughout the day. He has already proven his eager nature by learning sit, stay, come, roll, down, and beg! Given he receives frequent opportunities to use the washroom, Dooley is fully housetrained. Dooley is currently getting 2 decompression walks per day, and the sniff therapy has been integral in teaching him how to calm himself. In addition to his walks, he is given lots of time in backyard to play fetch and with his foster siblings. His foster describes him as “a dream to walk” so he will make the ultimate hiking and potentially running partner! Dooley has expressed some unstable behaviour in previous homes, and will require a highly structured environment while he is in training. He has a tendency to become territorial of people, so it is important the structure remains part of the every day routine until he has learned to respect and acknowledge his place in the home. When Dooley has a consistent and calm leader who he can trust, his walls come down and he starts to build confidence. He can be quite fearful of loud or unexpected noises, so he is looking for a home outside of the downtown core. Due to his activity level and training needs, he will require a detached home with a fully fenced back yard. Dooley’s ideal home would have experience with dogs and the knowledge on how to provide and conduct a structured environment and routine. He is looking for a home with a single parent household, and is not looking for couples or families at this time. His training journey is ongoing, and will require a lot of patience to expose his true potential. Dooley has had issues with biting in the past, and will become territorial of specific people. Because of this his adopter should be willing to basket muzzle train to ensure his safety and the safety of others. His overall training focus currently and to be continued in his forever home will be confidence building, as his foster has determined it will be the foundation for his success longterm. Given his needs, Dooley will require a home that is low activity and adults only.
