Roger, Domestic Shorthair For Adoption In Toronto, Ontario

Toronto, ON

***IN FOSTER***Roger is ready to serve and volley on his own home court!Handsome like his famous tennis-playing namesake, this dynamic grey and white boy took a winding circuit in arriving at EHS. Initially found on the streets, but presenting as a cat that was accustomed to living with people, Roger was kept by his rescuer, in hopes that his owner might be located. But, after a couple of weeks passed with no success, his rescuer surrendered him to another shelter. While being managed by this other rescue agency, he was observed to be a nice cat, albeit a little overstimulated, and was adopted. Unfortunately, Roger failed to form a match with his first adopter. Although Roger appeared to be settling in well, spending the first day in his new home playing with toys, sitting with his adopter on the couch and even dozing off there, with her, when they awoke, he was at first cuddly and affectionate, then turned to lunging, biting, and scratching when he became overstimulated. After just a couple of days, he again was surrendered and eventually landed at EHS.Now settling in with his new foster, Roger is revealing more of his passionate personality. Characterized as sweet, affectionate, and social, the dashing one-year-old is becoming rather attached to his new human caretaker. Choosing to sleep next to her every night, he's rather forthright with demanding cuddles in the morning. Sporting a healthy appetite - he tends to pass out after spending quality time with his cat feeder - Roger also loves to play, especially with moving, squiggly things (including hair on his human's head). His feather wand, Dina the shark (may she rest in pieces), and Nigel the fish are some of his favourite toys. This highly intelligent and social boy is also a big fan of the Aquarium Channel. Without question a lap cat, Roger is prone to putting in marathon sessions in that cozy position, when comfortable. There's so much to love about this attention-seeking, talkative, beautiful boy.Overstimulation remains an issue. Too much petting, as gauged by his own internal barometer, still inspires Roger to scratch or play-bite. According to his foster, these situations can be diffused by blinking slowly and/or putting a stop to the particular interaction. Roger would do best in a home with one or two adults who are experienced with cats and are willing to continue working through his negative responses to sensory overload. An extremely high-energy cat, he needs regular ongoing physical and mental stimulation. Roger would not be a good choice for a household with children. If this affectionate, if occasionally temperamental, young lad appeals as a playful partner in your own household, contact us to set up a time to virtually meet.--------------------The adoption fee for a single cat or kitten at EHS is $175 and includes 30 days of free pet insurance.
