MOANA GENERAL LAYOUT - In the port hull: a 180cm (6 ft) wide king bed aft, a toilet/bathroom, an office, a single berth cabin and a bathroom/shower up forward- In the starboard hull: 180cm (6 ft) king bed aft, a bathroom/shower, a toilet/bathroom, and a 160cm (5.2 ft) queen bed forward- The bridge deck saloon and cockpit are the standard layout- The forward port locker accommodates sails, sheets and running rigging spares- The forward starboard locker accommodates mooring lines, diving equipment and all other gear RIG, SAILS, WINCHESThe sailing philosophy on MOANA is to easily manage her from the cockpit. Rigging is thus set up as straight forward as possible and all manoeuvres can be carried out by one person. All halyards, reef lines, sheets, etc. are led back to the cockpit, so there are no winches on the mast. Top speed under both engines at high revs is around 10 knots, yet the most economic speed is 6 knots with one engine at 2000 rpm for a fuel consumption of about 5 litre/hour (1.3 gal/hr)- The diesel fuel capacity is standard with 2x330 litre (2 x 87 gal) tanks- There are two independent 12V 80Ah starting batteries (new in 2016, 2020)- Propellers are the 3-blade folding model from Volvo PentaIn September 2019, the sail drives were dismounted, disassembled, fully serviced at a Volvo agent workshop and remounted with new rubber bellows and crankshaft seals (following Volvo’s recommendations for the 7-year service). ELECTRICAL MOANA has been designed to rely on renewable energy (wind for propulsion, solar for electrical power) as much as possible and as such she boasts an above-average 1,800 watts of solar panels mounted above the davits and on the bimini. In practical experience this suffices to satisfy the energy demands (lights, batteries, water maker and occasional laundry). This solution is simple and tranquillity is not disturbed by either genset or wind generator.
