The vessel was originally built in 1988 in Taiwan as a DeFever 47 Performance Offshore Cruiser, a design that provides for interior space that is second to none in its class. The current owner acquired the vessel in 1992 and lengthened aft by 15' in 1997. The lengthening gave the vessel: an 18' aft deck, over half of which is sheltered, a large lazarette that features tremendous storage space, a large fuel tank, and a passive stability roll reduction tank that naturally counteracts the rolling motion of the vessel, a control station that allows for easy maneuvering and singlehanded operation. A bulbous bow and bow puppet was added to provide anchor clearance from the bulbous bow. This addition resulted in overall length of 68', 22% better fuel efficiency at hull speed with is about 9.6 knots. Another big improvement was 60-70% reduction in pitch movements. In 2018, the vessel underwent a full exterior refit whereby all hardware was removed, and the exterior received 2 coats of gelcoat with Duratec additive for additional gloss finish. The vessel has since been dry docked in 2020 and 2021. The underwater hull was cleaned and coated with antifouling during each of those dockings. Because of the smooth benefit of the passive flume tank, no furniture is lashed or secured and has not moved in up to 30 knots of winds and associated Grand Banks’ swells. Accommodations The vessel's unique design provides for ample interior and exterior accommodation and entertaining spaces. Space highlights include: Forward cabin with V-berth, wet head, and hanging closet with lighting Middle cabin with bunk beds, desk, and hanging closet with lighting. The middle cabin may be accessed by a second door from the master cabin and the bunks can convert to a couch to allow the space to be used as a study Full beam Master cabin with a queen-sized bed, hanging closets with lighting, storage drawers, makeup desk, and private head Bathtub enclosure that is accessible from the middle washroom or Master cabin washroom Wheelhouse with fixed pedestal Captain’s chairs providing excellent visibility and comfort when underway Galley and seating area open to wheelhouse (galley up arrangement) fitted with Sub Zero fridge and freezer, electric stove and oven, double stainless steel sink, microwave, and ample storage space Saloon with pull-out couch, loveseat, fridge, ice maker (new 2022), and wet bar Lazarette accessed via a stairwell from the aft deck that contains significant storage space, oil and electric furnaces, fuel tank. Vessel can heat to 30C in 15C weather very easily. Aft deck with large sheltered area, ample space for seating, full size propane BBQ, and a control station to allow for easy maneuvering. The vessel is fitted with a swim platform mounted on the transom that is accessible by ladder from the aft deck. Propulsion & Thruster The vessel’s twin screw, twin rudder arrangement combined with a bow thruster makes it highly maneuverable. The vessel is powered by two Caterpillar 3208 Turbo Charged, Aftercooled marine diesel engines, each producing 375 HP. The engines are sea water cooled and are fitted with Walker AIRSEP air intake filters, Micro Commander electronic engine controls with automatic synchronization, 160-amp alternators (new 2021), and analog gauges at each helm station with all information converted and made available to the vessel’s NMEA 2000 network. Both engines have just over 5,000 running hours and have been serviced regularly by Caterpillar technicians. Vessel has never been operated above 10 knots for extended periods. Most steaming has been at 8 to 9.5 knots. We enjoy the ride and have never been in a rush to end it. The insulation was removed from the exhaust piping of each main engine in 2022 after which the piping was visually inspected and upgraded as required. New insulation jackets were then fabricated and installed on the exhaust piping of each engine. Both engine exhausts are wet exhausts and exit the vessel at the transom. The engines are each connected to two Aquamet 22 stainless steel shafts that are fitted with Spurs rope cutters and Hawboldt Mega 4 high performance 4-blade propellers. One set of Spurs was replaced in 2021 and the other was serviced at that time. One new Spurs assembly and two service kits are included. Both propellers were cleaned and confirmed to be in line with spec in 2020. The shafts are connected to the vessel’s bonding system and are also fitted with zinc anodes, which were replaced in 2021.
